Why I Enjoy Binge-watching

My ultimate hobby is to binge-watch new TV shows (some old). Binge-watching has become somewhat of phenomena since the existence of Netflix. It is essentially marathon watching of a TV show  (e.g. A whole season of Game of Thrones).

For me personally, gone are the days when I’d wait week upon week for the development of a show. Why wait when you can watch it all in one?

My first experience of binge watching was with the show ‘Heroes’ (in the early 00s)  It was an epic watch. My ex boyfriend brought his hard drive of the first season of the show round my house at 11am and we must’ve spent the next 24 hours continuously until we finished the whole thing. It was the day I popped my binge watching cherry and a monster was created.

The best kind of shows to binge watch are the big ones such as; Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Dexter, 24.. The reason being that they will leave you wanting more with every episode. This is the whole point of marathon watching.

The disadvantages of binge watching are the constant shakes after watching 12 episodes back to back. The longing that you feel after you’ve exhausted an entire series. In addition, the feeling that you have wasted your entire 2 days for nothing but to join in with the topic of conversation.

I’d never stop though.. It’s always worth it. If there is a show that I’m not getting into, I simply stop watching. I’m not really going to waste my time with nonsense waste of time shows.

December Favourites 2014

These are my favourite products for the month of December 2014!

Mac Lightful Marine Bright Formula Serum

Trust me when I say that this serum is awesome! I’m not really great with giving reviews on products but It has an instant effect on the face – making it appear smooth from the outset. The texture of my skin has definitely changed after using this for a few days.

Mac Lightful Marine Bright Formula Moisture Creme

The same can be said for this product. When I started using this my skin appeared so smooth the very next day. This is definitely my HG product. It is a little pricey but it is totally worth it for what you get.

Cha Cha Tint by Benefit Cosmetics

This tinted blusher is the best colour for my darker skin tone. It gives a very natural flush of colour on the cheeks. I have an extensive collection of blushes – this is by far my favourite!

Mac Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

Only started using this a couple of weeks ago but it is already my favourite highlighter. It is quite pigmented so I only need to use a little. I find that it is perfect if you contour your face for those extra made up days.

Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Perfume 15ml

This will always be my favourite perfume. It’s going to be my favourite in January I’m sure of it.

Body Shop Leona Lewis Blush Brush (discontinued)

I slept on this brush. I got it a very long time ago in the Body Shop sale but because of the vast amount of brushes that I have, I neglected using it. I have found that It gives the perfect application that you need when applying product to the cheeks.

Mac Pro Longwear in NC45

I never thought that I would ever find a Mac foundation that I actually liked. I tried Studio Fix, Face and Body foundation and even Match Master foundation but when I say that this foundation suits me to a T. I am so happy that I saw that review on YouTube about this foundation because it made me actually go to the MAC store to test it out. I was impressed with the results of the application and the staying power that it possesses.

Mac Lip Conditioner

My lips get really dry throughout the day. I tried this little beauty and I was not disappointed! This lip conditioner truly conditions your lips. The more that you use it, the less you have to use it overall. It is quite pricey but I would definitely get it again if I had to.

Ben Nye Banana Powder

I had a bit of mixed reviews on this product initially but as soon as I found the correct way to apply this – it gave my skin a flawless finish. It is worth all the hype fortunately.

Lush Vanillary Solid Perfume

This is my favourite natural perfume from Lush. You can literally be creative with it. Put it in your hair, your pulse points – anywhere that can do with a gust of vanilla fragrance.

Bristle Hairbrush (from any beauty supply store)

To Audiobook or Not….

So, there has been a debate raging in my mind as to whether I should continue my Audible subscription. The idea sounded great at the time, I was browsing through the App Store on my iPad and lo and behold – Audible, a simple way of enjoying listening to a book without the hassle of reading. I purchased my first book with the only credit that I had for the remainder of that month. I downloaded the book of my choosing and off I was listening to an American narrator read a book to me like a spoilt child needing a good bedtime story (am I being too harsh?).

It appears to be a completely lazy way to ‘read’ a book but I tell you what, it’s actually more complicated than it seems. You see, there is a phenomena called ‘active listening’ that involves you actively digesting the information that is presented to you. Just imagine it as ‘chewing’ with the ears.It is not as simple as just sitting there and letting the narrator do all the reading for you. It still takes a lot out of you to actively partake in the narrative. It is in fact so easy to get so lost in the audio that you can lose track of what is actually being said. This results in various instances of rewinding the bloody thing to the point that you last paid attention.

It is also frustrating not having the words in front of oneself. I have spent my life reading words… Can I really introduce something new to the bedroom? Hey, are we still talking about books?

So what am I saying? Am I in favour or not?

Ok, my position is that I am neither for or against. To each their own. I personally don’t mind the experience. There are certain types of books that I would prefer to read the paperback version. There are other types of books where I wouldn’t mind perusing the electronic version and I’m sure there are certain types of books where I wouldn’t mind listening via audiobook. It is truly not the end of the world.

I do recommend it to people that are always on the go. Particularly those that drive everywhere. At least it is something productive whilst you are crumbling under the stress of traffic flow between home and your destination.

In conclusion, I will continue my subscription since I do drive to work and it is useful having literature playing in the background to sharpen one’s mind.

My Top 10 All Time Favourite Movies

This is not in order by the way. It’s far too hard to construct in order.

I am naturally a film enthusiast and this list has changed several times already because there are just too many films to list. What has particularly influenced my list is the watchability and overall storyline.

1. The Devil’s Advocate

I can watch this over and over again. I love the storyline and Al Pacino is just divine in this movie. My favourite scene is the ending where Al Pacino gives that epic speech.

 2. The Prestige

There are quite a few Christopher Nolan directed films on my list. He is an impressive director and this film is beautifully directed. I have watched this several times and am still amazed.

 3.The Shawshank Redemption

What an exquisite film! Every single person needs to watch this film!

 4. The Batman Trilogy (Chris Nolan Edition – favourite being The Dark Knight)

Another Chris Nolan film on the list. I am a hardcore Batman fanatic! and I love the dark tone of the films. I am specifically a fan of The Dark Knight because Heath Ledger’s joker is second to none. Whenever I watch it, I still get chills down my spine.

5. The Godfather I and II (I know it’s cheating but I consider it one epic movie)

 One word – Classic!

6. 500 Days of Summer

Probably the only light hearted film on the list but it surprised me. Definitely one to watch for those that have not seen it yet.

7. The Matrix

This never gets old! Probably the first of the mind-bending films that I am so addicted to.

8. Scarface

Classic! Al Pacino’s performance is captivating!

9. Goodfellas

Another classic gangster movie that is enjoyable from start to finish.

10. Some Like it Hot

I absolutely love this movie! it is so unbelievably funny! Wow!

* Honourable mentions

– Kill Bill

– Pulp Fiction

– Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind

– Inception

Mr Timberlake has done it again! This album is such a grower… The first time that I listened to the album, I was gripped but it wasn’t like WOW! (like the second album) but the more that I listened to the songs (and boy the songs are long!), I found myself becoming more and more engrossed – addicted.

You would think that with only 10 songs that the album run would be rather quick but that is quite the contrary. In fact, the album is very wholesome in that the average length of a song is 8mins which is great for me!

It is also definitely a more soulful album than I expected (which is great). JT hasn’t sold out like some artists out there  and I think this may be my spring favourite.

My favourite songs are Mirrors and Pusher Love Girl at the moment *but it changes daily.

I give the album 4/5

Book of The Week: HOPELESS by Colleen Hoover

Book of The Week: HOPELESS by Colleen Hoover

I’ve recently got back into reading again and I have never been so engrossed in a book as I have with this one. The author had gripped me from start to finish and I tell you, it is very rare for that to happen (especially to me).

I am not going to go into details abou the book but if you like a lot of twists and turns and being gripped to the edge of your seat, this book is for you. I read the whole book in less than 12 hours – it was THAT good.

I give the book five starts 5/5 *****
